The old 'Flag' has now been completely refurbished inside and out and renamed the Bellflower. It is spacious and bright and a great improvement on the old 'Flag'. It is a '2 for 1' style pub meaning that when two adults order a main course the cheaper of the two meals is free. The food does reflect this though, frozen chips and frozen onion rings accompanied my husband's steak and my beer battered cod was a disaster on the evening we dined, a small piece of fish surrounded by a mass of batter which had been fried to a crisp. The portions are small too. However they do have the service side of the business off to a tee. Attentive, friendly and cheerful staff take both food and drink orders at the table, unusual for a pub food venue. For beer lover's there is a selection of five or six cask beers including Jenning's, Pedigree, Cocker Hoop and Hobgoblin. On the Friday night that we visited they were doing a roaring trade with lots of family groups, in fact there were only a few free tables, and it is a very big pub so I may be in the minority in my opinion of the food :-) Basically I would describe it as a spacious, family friendly pub with cheap but unremarkable pub food. I'll certainly visit again for a beer but I probably wouldn't dine there again.
